Tour Details:
Your tour commences at your accommodation in Cairns, Northern Beaches or Port Douglas at where our experienced rainforest guide collects you.
We head north and travel along Australia's premier scenic coastal road in a comfortable air-conditioned bus.
You will enjoy quick morning refreshments before crocodile spotting time. (It can be afternoon refreshments when cruise is taken in the afternoon.)
Your crocodile/wildlife spotting adventure on the Daintree River takes us through the domain of the large estuarine crocodiles. Egrets wade near mangroves in the murky water of the river where crocodiles wait patiently for a meal. We look for pythons, tree snakes, butterflies and lots of other wildlife on this cruise.
You will finish the cruise on the northen side of the Daintree River and head north, entering the Cape Tribulation section of the Daintree National Park.
Here things really begin to change, we think, for the better. We find the road narrows and the rainforest towers over us as we enjoy the ever-increasing beauty of this ancient Gondwana Rainforest.
We stop at the Alexandra Lookout, which gives you a bird's-eye view of the Daintree River, Port Douglas and, on a clear day, landmarks south of Cairns.
After the lookout, we experience the Marrdja or Jindalba Boardwalk. Here, we see trees that have been caught in a time capsule – they haven't changed in millions of years. As we pass through the ancient rainforest, the Marrdja Boardwalk leads us over a complex mangrove swamp system. Very interesting.
Next, we will visit Cape Tribulation Beach at where we have a picnic lunch (weather permitting). Enjoy lunch at one of the picnic tables or right on the beach. There is a boardwalk which leads to a picturesque lookout here as well.
After lunch, we heard back south and cross the mighty Daintree River on a cable ferry this time. (You will cross the Daintree River on a ferry on the way to Cape Tribulation if the cruise in taken in the afternoon.)
Last stop is the famous Mossman Gorge. Surrounded by lush rainforest, the gorge is a magical location for a rainforest walk and/or a refreshing swim in where the clear mountain river cuts through thick rainforest and tumbles over boulders on its journey to the sea.
On the way back to Cairns, we will stop at Rex Lookout. (The passengers who get off the bus in Port Douglas will be dropped off before stopping at this lookout.)
