Day 1 : Ocean Free: 1 day Sailing to Pinnacle Reef & Green Island
Your day on Ocean Free, a 16m sailing schooner begin at 7:30am at A Finger no 4. Enjoy a morning tea or coffee with fruit and Danish pastries, before departing at 8:00am. Sail to our exclusive mooring on Pinnacle Reef - just 1km from Green Island. Guests can enjoy a swim, snorkel, dive or just relax. Ocean Free's exclusive mooring ensures a very personal experience for guests. The bommies or coral outcrops and coral gardens come to just 1m under the surface to make viewing of the teeming life easy. Green Island is famous for turtles, with large giant clams, many beautiful fishes, staghorn coral and spaghetti coral all common at Pinnacle Reef. We are even lucky enough to be visited by friendly black-tipped reef sharks most days - something for the bucket list! Trips to Green Island are by tender - Guests need to be mobile enough to get into and out of a dinghy onto the beach and into and out of a dinghy from the main vessel. Guests can then split their time on the reef and the island as they wish. A large smorgasbord lunch with a mixed meat platters/chicken platter/3 salads and assorted breads is served on board the vessel. Platters of fruit, cheese and crackers and cake are served on the sail home. Extremely low guest numbers (max 25) ensures a personal snorkel and dive experience. All guests are assessed for their snorkeling and diving abilities and are appropriately assisted to ensure that all are able to experience and enjoy the reef. On the island guests can swim, sunbathe, or explore the interpretive walking tracks and beach. Glass Bottom Boat tours or semi-sub tours, or even a visit to Marineland Melanesia (crocodile park and turtle rehabilitation clinic) can be arranged on the island. Over 4 and half hours ensures that guests can enjoy both the island and reef. Enjoy the sail home - where engines do get switched off (weather permitting). Returns Cairns around 5.00pm (depending on the wind).
